Kate Bedford’s sublime landscapes probe at metaphysical possibilities. Drawing from the natural environment, as well as mythological narratives, the traditional landscape is transformed into a vast scape of cosmic concerns. The concept of time is an overarching thematic, where techniques and materials are used to emphasis light.
The paintings are often referred to as portals into otherworldly spaces. While the works contain the sentimental and idealistic, they also portray notions of decay and ruin, as hints of the apocalypse loom in the distance.
